Japan's Devistation: Tsunami and Earthquake
On March 11, 2011 Japan was struck by not one but two natural disasters - first an Earthquake measuring 8.9 on the Richter scale (later confirmed to be the worst earthquake in Japan's recorded history), followed by a massive tsunami created by the earthquake itself.
The internet and web have been flooded with images and videos of some amazing images and video of the incredible power of these two forces. Below is a few links with images and videos for you to look through. Some incredible stuff!
BBC News - some incredible video of the tsunami wave and its power
NY Times Interactive - amazing before and after images of Japan (slide the slider L to R)
The Calamity of Japan's 8.9-Magnitude Quake - images from TIME website
The video below is of a supermarket during the quake. How close to the epicenter is unkown.

Tonight's Homework
Hey 7's!
For homework...go to the "PLANTS FOR FOOD AND FIBER" page (to the right of this post) and click on the section 3 notes. Within the notes, scroll to section 3.2. In there, I would like you to list one advantage and one disadvantage of each of the practices that affect soil quality. Have them written in your notes for tomorrow.
Any questions, see me at lunch or fire me an email :)

Happy Halloween!
In the spirit of this candy-filled and spook-tacular holiday, here is a game created by M&M's. The goal is to name the horror/thriller film based on the sketch. For example, the image below depicts the film "SIGNS".
To visit the site, click HERE. Good luck - there are FIFTY titles to find :)

PLANT OF THE YEAR Assignment
Hi everyone!
In case you loose your sheet, you can find a digital copy of the Plant of the Year assignment on the Plant For Food and Fiber unit page (the link is just to the right). Please make sure that you spend time creating your magazine cover - it should be as professional as you can make it! If you are not sure what a TIME magazine cover looks like, just google it. Just be careful with recognizing the fake covers... they have titles and words that TIME magazine would never put on their covers.
DUE DATES:
7E - Friday, September 17
7H - Monday, September 20
Any questions or concerns, just fire me an email - thanks!
